Our Story

Meet Creative Director & founder

Jaye Leigo Holmes

Hi, I’m Jaye.

I am beyond thrilled you have found yourself here at my beating heart, Hand On My Heart. An Australian fashion brand I have been dreaming about, creating, and honing for years. I have finally conjured up the courage to step out from behind the global fashion houses I have been designing for, for decades, to convey my creative ethos.

At the core of the brand is my desire to constantly create and produce beautiful products that have only a positive impact for our people and our planet.

I grew up in pretty much complete isolation on a Merino wool farm embedded deep within the rugged, and often harsh, beauty of land gripping the Australian Outback. The extremities of this environment ignited a physical and spiritual connection to the land and wider universe which I’ve continued to carry and nurture no matter where I have lived and worked in the world.

Designing Hand on My Heart is so much more than just a dress you slip on.  To me it’s about connection and the garments created are an extension of how I see fashion - as wearable art with the ability to positively transform your sense of self, carving out unique individual looks.

It is also with this intent that I have hand-selected female lead artisans and makers, who practise ancient time-honoured techniques, to produce Hand On My Heart.  I see my designs as a canvas for their skills and to help combat an often-toxic industry which is damaging to both our environment and to underpaid workers.

My collections will always be produced in a truly artisanal spirit, only bringing you beautiful soulful, sustainable, and ethical garments which I hope are cherished for generations to come.

Welcome to Hand On My Heart xx

Guiding Principles

My collections will always be part of the slow-made fashion movement.  My carefully-selected partners, who help to bring these beautiful pieces to life, share and practice the same values around equality, environment and preservation of ancient skill.

I only use 100% Natural Biodegradable Fibers, GOTS Organic Cotton and GOTS Compliant Natural Dyes, Zero Plastic Buttons.

Ethically Made

Our impeccable quality and finishes of each garment are produced by boutique production houses centred around championing women in an egalitarian environment where all voices are listened to.

Women from marginal communities are empowered with Vocation training and financial independence. An advocate of Zero Waste, our offcuts from the production process find new leases of life through tree-less paper and fashion accessories.

Artisans

Our block printing is done by hand by one of the oldest and last surviving studios of its kind, run by two generations of women.  The studio’s roots - in silk saris – are also deeply embedded in art and culture. Our prints are Exclusive Vintage archives from the 70's. All colours are handmixed and all dyes are non toxic natural dyes.

The studio is ISO 26000 compliant and carbon neutral.
